Try laporsche down the list. I just got a 3.6 911 engine at a fair price. They take a little while to ship, but the parts look nice.

818-PORSCHE. Ask for Todd.

Try getting that part from a bone (salvage)yard. Its mechanical so you should get a "reliable" piece. Try one that specializes in Porsche wrecks, should be easy if you have the part number. For a suggestion: try http://www.911pcar.com/

No factory sport seats here, but if you check with webersport 831-771-9640, they might have them.

Other sources are the dismantlers (try LA Porsche @ www.laporsche.com ...hmm, hold on that, they're updating their site) or

Hi folks,

Though I don't have a 964 I am interested in one that LA Porsche dismantlers has. I know it's a salvage title and it probably needs a repaint. But they are asking $27k for a 94 Speedster with a Tip. I am wondering if any of you have dealt with them. Of course I need to trade or sell my 944 Cab before getting another p-car. Thanks.

Yes, I've dealt with Todd over there multiple times. Overall I was satisfied with my experience but I'll give you the details:

I ordered a door and front fender (used) from them. There were some delays in getting it. Todd explained that UPS dropped the package and damaged it so he sent me out another. My only disappointment was that I wanted a white door and fedner. But he had no more white used ones, so he sent black ones. The door was perfect (as described). The fender was also perfect but they cut it off the car and I didn't want to use it. So I used the door and it worked out well. By the way, he did NOT charge me for the fender - so he was very fair.

My second dealing with him was somewhat similar. I ordered some exhaust components and a set of billstein struts. He sent me the struts out immediately - they were perfect, near new as promised. He forgot to send the exhaust pieces and I called several times. He said he would send it that day and I told him if I didn't receive by week's end don't bother. I didn't receive the exhaust parts but he never charged me for them either.

Bottom Line for me is he was honest and delivered quality goods when he did. His prices are excellent (unbeatable)! Over all I'm happy and I would buy from him again.

Hi,
I just recently bought a '95 993, Blue paint on Tan/Saddle and black interior. Not my desired Interior color but the car was too well priced to pass up. Therefore I am considering an interior swap with someone that perhaps want to brighten up there's? I have the Black dash and dash pad, so it's the seats, door panels, carpets, center console etc. I have a wood grain shifter if someone wants it? I would swap to partial black (i.e. seats and door panels etc.) or all black, or a complete swap with grey (or is it gray in America?). My car came with 23K miles and the passenger seat looks barely used at all. Standard wear mark on the drivers seat (front corner around control switches). Dual power front seats with the Porsche crest in the headrest. It's a stock interior otherwise. I would go as far as swapping carpets for the right swap.

Let me know your interest.

Thanks,
Dylan.

I have checked quite a few web sites & emailed a number of used part shops with no luck. I've asked my local Porsche dealer to see if I can order the part but they can't even find a part number on their fische.
Can anyone help me out this?

If anyone knows of any cars that are presently forsale I'd appreciate the lead, or links to salvage yards that normally carry Porsches. Heavy damage is OK, my friend is partners in a restoration shop with a chassis jig. This was the summer project.

I was driving N. on PCH today going through Huntington Beach when I see a smokey in my rear-view...no problem since I wasn't speeding...so I thought!!!

The cop pulls me over for having the Euro tail lenses on my car and gives me a fix-it ticket (he also got me for tinted front windows...aaargh!!! Fortunately, he missed the front license plate!) In any event, I was wondering if any LA/OC Rennlisters could recommend a dismatler in the area who may have a set of standard issue tail lenses for a 993 C2.

My mechanic says this new HB cop has been getting a lot of people for "illegal modifications" so be careful if you travel in or through HB.

Any help on finding replacements lenses is greatly appreciated...the dealer wants $120 each...ouch!

Thanks all,

JMA

A couple of weeks ago I polled the board for opinions on sport seats. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Unfortunately I was not adequately specific - I am interested in what folks think of the so-called 'hard back' or 'hard shell' sport seats, aka '373 Racing Style Sport Driver's Seat' and '374 Racing Style Sport Passenger's'

Thoughts on grip, comfort, etc. would be welcome, esp. as compared to stock non-sport seats.

I understand these do not come with power fore/aft adjustment nor power seat back angle adjustment, but do come with power height adjustment (which means they should weigh less). Is that correct? Thanks!

I went through a fair amount of thought about how to make the back of my '85 targa safe for my 5 and 7 year olds, turned out it wasn't really that hard to do. I bought 2 rear-seat 3-point belts (out of a 964) from LAPorsche (good guys) and posted a WTB ad for the 964 rear parcel shelf on Rennlist (the shelf comes with seatbelt roses) which was promptly responded to by several people who had converted to racers. Seat belts and shelf in hand, I had a local guy install them. The belt retractors bolt right into the firewall with the addition of steel plates to reinforce the sheet metal, the mounting holes were already there in my '85 (apparently, Porsche started delivering some of the ROW models with rear shoulder belts around that time, so I guess that the mounting holes were included in all models although the US didn't get the rear shoulder belts until '91 or '92; if anyone knows differently, please correct me), and the shelf goes right in with no mods. About an hour and a half of labor, most of the work being to modify the firewall sound mat to fit the plates in. You can also buy the roses alone from Stoddard's ($6.75 each) and mount them in your existing shelf, but then, of course, you are cutting holes in your original shelf; I chose to keep my shelf original, and safely stored away for the day I might want to go back to the stock configuration.

My kids are totally psyched every time we get to go out now, and they love the back seats because they are built to "kid" scale; they feel very proprietary about that part of the car. And I get to remember what it was like for me everytime I got to ride in my dad's '73S as a kid. I'm sure that I am ruining them for life for any sort of "average, normal" car; well, they can wait as long as I did to get their own slice of mechanical heaven!

My heart is in my throat today. I bought an '84 Carrera with 92K miles two weeks ago which was described to me by the dealer as original, w/ no accidents. Yesterday I had it serviced to discover: 1) the valve guides are completely gone (approx $3000) and 2) it had been wrecked.. badly. I first noticed a gas smell, then the rotors felt out of round on braking, even though the dealer claimed they were brand new. Turns out it was hit so hard the tank was cracked and the left front suspension is unable to be adjusted straight. The left front tire is scalloping badly and is being cut by the fender lip because it's too far forward in the wheel well. !!!! I have no idea how much this would cost to "fix" or if it's even fixable. Sounds like at least another $3K to me. I paid $20K for this car and I'm just sick because it seems it's worth at least $5K less than that. I have yet to speak with the dealer, but I will today soon. I'd like to know if anyone has any advice, legal or tactical, besides making sure I get my next car checked out before buying it. ugh.

I don't know about recourse, but be sure your car is worth more than $5K. Check out www.laporsche.com, parts cars are not $20K, but also not $5K. I would be surprised if there are not a few smaller things you can do to correct your problems. Quotes from a good bodyshop will give you a good idea of what you really need done.

Rotors and the gas tank are really easy to fix, front rotors take about two hours to replace and cost in the range of $75 each, and a gas tank once empty should be about the same amount of time and should be available from a local version of laporsche or Partsheaven (both here in CA).

The bent front end, could be as simple as an A-arm, about $200 and three hours work, plus you can convert to nylon bushings, if the impact has gone into the cars structure, now is a great time to consider getting it fixed and adding camber boxes and camber plates.

So you see...I see this as an opportunity to upgrade the things you will wnat to do in the future anyways...

hope it all works out for you...one final suggestion get the Carrera Service manual for Porsche by Robert Bentley at http://www.books4cars.com/ for $100, the best $100 you'll ever spend.

Hey Todd,

Thanks again for the preferential treatment last Saturday.   As it turns out, the 3 later model 911 fans will not work for my application and I wanted to see if you can locate more of the earlier style fans with the straight blades and possibly trade them out for me.

Please take a look in your other yard and around your yard and let me know what you find.   I can run up on Sat. morning again if so.

Sorry for the extra work, but my engine guy didn't advise the difference in the housing width, which is about 1 inch, until I was showing him the assemblies I scored from you.
